Step 1 September preceding year of entry - All Local Authorities in England provide Year 6 students in maintained schools with a Common Application Form (CAF), which is usually online. This must be completed by parents and returned to their home Local Authority by 31 October. If the child attends an Independent School, parent(s)/carer(s) have to contact their home Local Authority for a CAF. If the family live elsewhere in the UK or overseas, this does not apply.
Step 2 Parent(s)/Carer(s) also complete a Year 7 Main School Boarding application and send back to the College by 31 October. Parent(s)/Carers who wish for their child to participate in the Year 7 Music Priority Specialist places also complete the relevant application and return it to the College by 31 October.
Step 3

  • The College contacts the candidate's current school for a boarding reference.

  • If candidate has applied for a Music Day place, they are invited to come for the assessment EITHER in October or November.
Step 4 December - The College writes to the family to advise whether we deem the candidate suitable to board. If we think they are unsuitable, we will give the reasons why. The College writes to all October Priority Place participants to advise whether or not they have reached the required benchmark.
Step 5 1 March - The candidate's home Local Authority advises the family at which School a place has been offered. 1 March - The candidate's home Local Authority advises the family at which school a place has been offered.

Guide to In Year Applications - Years 8-10

Day Places

Applications for a Year 8-10 day place must be made directly to the College using the College Application In Year Transfer Form. Completed forms must be returned to the College, who will respond to the applicant’s parents/carers.

It is generally agreed that it is in the best interests of children and schools for school transfers to take place at the beginning of a new term. If an application to the College is received it will be considered in line with the following timetable:

  • 31 October for a transfer to take place at the beginning of the spring term (after Christmas)
  • 28 (29) February for a transfer to take place at the beginning of the summer term (after Easter)
  • 31 May for a transfer to take place at the beginning of the autumn term (the beginning of a new school year). Decisions regarding preference(s) will be sent out before the end of the summer term.

If an applicant believes there are exceptional reasons why an immediate transfer should be considered, reasons should be provided to the College in writing, along with the appropriate supporting documents for the College’s consideration:

  • If moving to Norfolk or moving a significant distance in Norfolk where travel to the current school is unreasonable. The application should be made prior to the house move, but only on confirmation of a move date. Evidence must be given to confirm this.
  • Where medical reasons are given, a letter from a relevant medical professional will be required to support the application.
  • Where “Home education” has been disallowed by Norfolk County Council, the College will seek confirmation from the Council. If the applicant is currently in home education and want to access a place at the College, the application will not be considered for an immediate transfer.
  • Where issues with the current school, such as severe bullying, are cited, the College will require additional evidence to support the application and the issues cited must have been discussed with the current school.

Processing an in-year transfer application with or without exceptional circumstances does not guarantee a place will be offered. Places are only offered if space is available. The College will only consider one application for an In Year Transfer in a school year.

In accordance with the Schools Admissions Code 2014, the College will advise the local authority of each application received and the outcome of that application at the end of each half term.

The Difference between Day and Day Boarding Places

In overview, Day students can be at College from 08:00 to 17:15. Payment of the Senior School Day Fee entitles the student to refreshments at morning break, lunch and use of the boarding house facilities downstairs.

Day Boarding Students are able to participate in the life  of the College from breakfast until the end of Wymondham Life 2 activities for the student's year group. Day Boarding is not a separate category of admission and can only be applied for after a Day Place has been offered.

Day Boarding students can come to the College from 07:00, take breakfast and have the usual School day. They may stay later to have tea and complete their prep in house alongside the Boarders as well as participate in Wymondham Life 2.

Day Boarding students can take advantage of using a room upstairs in the boarding house. The room is provided on the basis that there is space in the boarding house and at the discretion of the Head of House. The student must leave the boarding house at their given time and must not under any circumstances stay overnight in the room. Equally they do not have access to a wardrobe, nor may they store any items at the College in the room.

Day Boarding is an arrangement which carries a termly charge. Please see the fees information for prices.
