Lieutenant Colonel Matt Woodeson - Chair of Governors

Lieutenant Colonel Woodeson BA (Hons) MA (Hons) MCMI, is a former old boy (Fry and Lincoln), and is an Infantry Officer in the Army.  He has significant operational experience and has trained and operated extensively all over the world. He has commanded at every level and served on the staff in a Battalion, Brigade and Divisional Headquarters, as well as more recently at the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood.  He holds an MA in Defence Studies from Kings College, London and is currently studying for a PhD with Kings’s College, London.  He is married to Julia and has two sons who are 9 and 7.  Having settled locally and as an experienced commander, leader and mentor, he hopes that his expertise in senior leadership development will be able to add something back to the College.

Mr Adrian Underwood

Mr Underwood has been involved in education and boarding for over forty-five years having been a housemaster and a head of department and, for twenty-two years, Headmaster of a senior independent boarding and day school.  He was a Director of the National Boarding Schools’ Association from 1998-2006 and a lead inspector for the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate and the Education Development Trust for over fifteen years.

Mr Joseph Walpole

Mr Walpole is married with two children, one of which has recently left the College after the completion of GCSEs and one who remains as a student.  He has spent over twenty years as a Project/Programme Manager with large international and small local businesses across multiple industries delivering mainly ICT projects.  Mr Walpole was involved with the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme and has an active personal and professional interest to see ICT excellence in educational establishments.

Mr Alex FitzGerald

Mr FitzGerald is a chartered accountant looking after the treasury and financial accounts within a team at the Flagship Housing Group, a large, charitable social housing provider in the East of England.  He is also involved in the business planning and governance for the Group. With a keen desire to help improve children’s educational attainment and with considerable experience in corporate decision making, he values the contributions of others who may hold alternative views to his own.  Mr FitzGerald is married with two children both of whom attend Wymondham college.

Mrs Di Carroll

Mrs Carroll is married with a daughter who is a boarding student at the College.  Born and brought up near Newmarket herself, her life has been devoted to horses.  She was a very successful junior show jumper and has rode out for some of the UK’s finest racehorse trainers as well as riding winners on the flat as an amateur jockey.  Mrs Carroll is a Director of two family businesses one of which provides pre-export quarantine facilities for racehorses and the other which supplies caterers and venues with equipment.

Mr Lee Summers - Teaching Staff Governor

Mr Summers is a former old boy (Peel and Cavell Hall) and is currently Assistant Headteacher – Head of New Hall.  He has been involved with Wymondham College for 17 years as a student and as a staff member.  Mr Summers has significant boarding experience having worked in boarding for over 10 years starting out as a Resident Fellow and working his way through to Head of House.  Mr Summers is married to Rosie who also teaches at the college and they have 2 young children, Layla and Toby.  He is passionate about the Colleges history and is looking forward to his new position as Teaching Staff Governor.

Jane Mann

Jane Mann is Managing Director of the Cambridge Partnership for Education, which partners with governments to support programmes of education reform. Jane has worked in the education sector for over two decades, implementing and managing programmes to support international and national curricula, working with ministries of education, government agencies, NGOs, donor agencies and education organisations to design effective materials and infrastructures. Jane has also worked outside the education sector, advising and consulting on regulatory frameworks, trade publishing strategy, communications, and process redesign. She is married with three sons, two of whom attend the College.

Jodie Hosmer

Mrs Jodie Hosmer is a lawyer, project manager and legal engineer at Mills & Reeve, a top 50 Law Firm with over 10 years’ experience as a transactional lawyer and manager. She has a strong regulatory and project delivery background and is particularly interested in discipline and due process. She is passionate about ensuring the pathway for early entrants into professional services is inclusive and spent two years on the Institute for Apprenticeship’s Legal Panel commenting on the Legal Apprenticeship Standards as part of the Government’s Trailblazer Scheme. She regularly supports the College with their career initiatives and is a frequent guest and panel speaker across the UK on the future of legal services. She is married with two children, one at the College.

Sophie Gitiba

Sophie Gitiba has spent the last 25 years dividing her attention between raising her 3 boys, two of whom are still at the college, working as an independent investment and healthcare consultant, and volunteering her time in community work. She has sat on several boards including spending over 10 years as a board member of a regeneration project in London.  Gitiba hopes that her expertise of working in diverse communities will add to the College community.

Mrs Sally Bashuan

Mrs Bashuan is currently the Head of Data and Analytics in the Aviva Investors Real Assets business. She holds a master’s in law and has spent 20 years in the Financial Service Industry. Her experience extends through IT, Audit and Financial Crime, Operations, Change Management and Strategy. She is married with a daughter who is a day student at the College and a son who is in primary school.

Major Doug Hayton-Williams

Major Doug Hayton-Williams MBA BA(Hons) CMgr FCMI is a former Wymondham College pupil (Kett Hall) who has served as an Infantry Officer in the British Army for over 18 years. His job has seen him deployed across the globe on many occasions, most notably leading troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan. A keen rugby player, he represented the Eastern Counties and British Infantry, and is committed to endurance training and outdoor pursuits. He enjoys reading on a wide range of subjects and is currently undertaking a PhD at Anglia Ruskin, Cambridge. Married and living locally, he seeks to utilise his broad leadership and continuous improvement experience, coupled with interpersonal and analytical skills, to add value to the College where possible.
