I would like to introduce myself I am the Rev Ian Jones and I am the chaplain at Wymondham College. My role is to care for the college community, to nurture faith, to lead worship and to be a counsellor and guide to all.
We are blessed with having a rich history at Wymondham College and our chapel is the last remaining Nissan hut built by the American forces which served as a hospital site for injured service men during World War 2. The chapel is at the heart of weekly house assemblies and Sunday worship for boarders and house staff. There is a weekly service of Holy Communion for staff and students. I encourage our students and staff to involve themselves in the services by offering to read, lead prayers or offering to play some music or lead us with a reflection. I want our students to reflect on their lives and their relationships with one another, their families and the wider world. I want them to ponder teaching and advice that has shaped our past and continues to shape our lives today. I want our students to be responsible towards themselves and others.
There is an active Christian Union where staff and students can meet to discuss matters of faith.
I am also engaged in building up positive dialogue and relations with all our students and their families who come from non-Christian backgrounds whether they are religious or not.
As the college chaplain I prepare students for confirmation. I will organise baptisms, weddings and funerals here at college or in a local church. I will offer pastoral support to any family suffering a bereavement. I am able to offer support and guidance for any matter of concern.
Wymondham College is a unique community and I have been privileged to be able to serve the college since 2004. This is a wonderful place to learn, teach, live and gain new friends. It is a place open to new opportunities and I believe the care and nurture our students receive sets them apart and puts them on the road to achieve great things in their lives.
