Along with other "outstanding" schools, Wymondham College has been invited by the Secretary of State for Education to apply for Academy status.
At its meeting on 11th June 2010 the Governing Body requested that the Principal register the College’s interest in the possibility of becoming an Academy with the Department for Education. This registration does not commit the College to becoming an Academy.
The Governing Body will discuss the issue further at an informal seminar to be held on 3rd September 2010 when it is hoped that more information about the implications of such a change in status will be available. Should the Governing Body wish to proceed further with an application, it would be necessary for a formal proposal to be considered at the meeting of the Governing Body on 8th October 2010.
The Governing Body noted that the Academies Bill proposes the removal of almost all the requirements for schools seeking to become Academies to consult with parents, staff and other stakeholders. Nevertheless, the Governing Body is committed to consultation before any decision on the future status of the College is made.
