This week we were delighted to welcome visitors taking part in a Royal College of Defence Studies tour.
The Royal College of Defence Studies is an internationally recognised organisation that can trace its history back to 1927. The aim of the College is to “prepare senior officers and official of the UK and other countries, and future leaders from private and public sectors, for high responsibilities in their respective organisations, by developing their analytical powers, knowledge of defence and international security, and strategic vision.” The course runs for an academic year from September to the following July. The current course has 90 Members including 60 Overseas participants from 45 different nations.
As part of the programme the course looks at the regions of the world, including two weeks studying the UK, the second week of which includes a visit to seven different regions of the UK (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and East of England, Midlands, North-West, and Yorkshire & Humberside for 2012). Each tour consists of between 12-14 participants, including one member of staff who acts as the tour leader. The majority of the tour party will be from overseas.
The visitors to the College were met by members of the senior management team and senior students who gave a presentation about the College, its history and more generally about education in the UK.
The group comprised of several members of the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces in the UK alongside senior members of the Armed Forces in Jordan, Yemen, Nigeria, Ukraine, Indonesia, Netherlands and Southern Sudan.
