The BSA is the representative body for over 500 independent and state boarding schools in the UK and overseas and has a major role in providing training for boarding staff from Governors to House Matrons.
Mr. Roffe will be the first state school head to chair the Association in over a decade and his year of office promises to be a busy one. “This is a very exciting time for boarding schools, “commented Mr Roffe, “Numbers of boarders are up across the sector as more and more parents and children realise what boarding can offer and there are major developments which will improve boarding accommodation in many state and independent schools. At the same time the Government’s Pathfinder scheme will enable more vulnerable children who would benefit from boarding to find places in suitable schools.”
Mr Peter Rout, Chairman of Governors of Wymondham College welcomed Mr Roffe’s appointment. “This is a great accolade for Melvyn and the reputation of Wymondham College will benefit from Melvyn’s high profile role in the boarding sector at home and abroad. Melvyn will remain very much in charge at the College, but his duties when he is away on BSA business will be covered by other members of the senior team.”
