Over the last two terms a group of Year 7, 8 and 9 students have been meeting regularly to set themselves up for the second round of the Mock Magistrates Competition.
This exciting competition took place on Saturday 16th May in Cambridge. All the participants arrived at College very early and set off at 7.20am. Overall, the competition went very well for our team. We prosecuted a young man for stealing a car and defended a youth accused of egg throwing. We scored very highly in both our rounds but unfortunately did not achieve first place so we are not going onto the National finals. We had a fantastic day and were all pleased with our achievements. The team came home in high spirits talking about future competitions and what the Year 8s would need to do in order to win next year!
A special mention must go to all the parents who have supported the team both in attending on Saturday and all the extra lifts to ensure students made rehearsals. Lynford Brunt from the Norwich Magistrate’s Service gave invaluable support to the team and said “this is the best team of young people I have ever worked with.”
The team consists of Tabitha Watson, Heidi Reger, Ben Partridge, Rosie Baines, Beth Chaney, Emily Hoogkamer, Edmund Roffe, Elliot Joseph, Gabriell Chiu, Kiera Mooney, Georgi Makin, Zino Mario Ghae, Jack Evans and Harry Evans. Man of the Match must go to Zino Mario-Ghae for his excellent portrayal of the defendant Jack Johnson. His performance was commended by the whole audience.
