Astronomy Club Meets Astronaut

On Friday 6th February 25 pupils from across all years met Charlie Duke, the tenth man to walk on the moon, as they attended a talk at St Andrews Hall, Norwich.

All students very much enjoyed hearing stories from Charlie about what it was like to travel to and walk on another world.

Brave Year 8 student Nick Prince asked Charlie, much to the bemusement of students from other schools, if he still doesn’t like orange juice following a mishap on the moon!

Charlie also talked passionately about what it was like to be capcom in mission control as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon and what the future may be as NASA begins new plans to return to the moon in the next ten to fifteen years.

Students were encouraged to learn that the next generation of moonwalkers would be from their age group and that, just perhaps, with determination and hard work they could be one of those astronauts.

All in all, a great day out!
