Visit to MCC Indoor School

When you get offered the chance to visit Lord's to meet some ex-England Internationals and get coaching on spin bowling from them, naturally you jump at the chance.

So when the PE department received a letter from the MCC asking if they wanted to take a cricketer and teacher to get coaching from John Emburey (147 England Test Wickets to his name), Mark Alleyne (Ex England ODI and Gloucester County Cricket), and also John Barclay (Ex Sussex Captain with 9677 First Class Runs), they were very pleased to accept.

After a very humorous talk from John Barclay about the ‘Spirit of Cricket’, James Hale (Wymondham College 1st XI Captain), received a 2 hour coaching session from John Emburey on spin bowling.

This was followed by a tour of Lord’s and some significant amount of time was spent in the England Changing Room and the Lord’s Long Room, both of which were very impressive.

The afternoon session was spent with James getting some more time spent on his bowling with John Emburey and Mr Jones receiving tips on the coaching of batting from Mark Alleyne.

Mr Jones commented “The day was very beneficial for both James and me, the coaching tips that I have picked up will, I’m sure, benefit all of our teams in the coming season. Next year the MCC will run a similar session with a different topic being the basis of the coaching clinic.”
