The Wymondham College U15 Rugby team scored a fantastic victory on Friday to take them into round seven of the Daily Mail Cup.
On a very wet and muddy Friday afternoon, previous Daily Mail winners Bedford School arived at Wymondham College for our 6th Round Daily Mail Cup match.
There was not much to choose between the teams for the first 15 minutes and then Wymondham were awarded a penalty which they missed and made sure the score stayed at 0-0.
Five minutes later Wymondham were awarded another penalty which Scott Lyle converted to give them a 3-0 lead. A third penalty followed shortly after to take Wymondham into a 6-0 lead at half time.
Wymondham came out all guns blazing in the second half and very shortly after the restart a superb pass from Will Evans allowed Henry Phoenix the opportunity to put the team 11-0 up with a well taken try. Scott Lyle converted to make it 13-0.
Bedford applied a large amount of pressure in the middle third of the half and some poor Wymondham defending allowed them to get within three points of the College score. However, Wymondham managed to hang on for an historic 13-10 win and set up a last 16 tie with Warwick School on 19th January.
