Outstanding Hockey Season

The Senior hockey have had a fantastic season, growing in strength every game. With some outstanding performances against Woodbridge (11-0) and Wisbech (5-4). The combination of the two year groups made a side that was all rounded in skill, determination

The county tournament saw a round robin between five schools. We started off with a 1-0 win against Greshams, this put us in good stead, coming runners up overall, also beating Norwich School and Langley. The next step was the regional tournament, where we came up against unknown opposition. We beat a strong Bishop Stortford (3-2). Then followed this up by a strong win against Kimbolton (2-1) and finally a draw against Bourne (1-1). This look us into the Semi final where we met Coppers Co and Coborn, this nail biting match went down to a short corner in the last ten seconds where we unfortunately lost 3-2. The team came back from behind in the 3rd and 4th play off against Bishop Stortford to win 3-2. The successful day was down to a whole team effort where every player stepped up to the challenge of the level of the opposition. Congratulations to the team and the level of effort given by everyone during the whole season. This team has been led well by Charlie Redhead, with outstanding performances from all throughout the season.

The U16’s have had a successful start to their season also. They have had convincing wins over Wisbech (5-1) and Norwich School (6-1). They came runners up at their Area tournament to take them through to the County round. They had good wins against KES and Cromer but lost to Norwich School, resulting in a semi final against ASHS. This was a close hard fought game with the result being 1-2. They went on to beat Greshams in the 3rd/4th play off 1-0. They have finished the season with a hard fought 2-2 draw against Greshams 2nd’s. The whole team have developed well over the term, led well by Maddie Taylor and Alice Waters.

This year has been a very tough one for the U15 squad but their progress and improvement from last year has been marked. They started well with a win over Wisbech 1-0 and the team showed great determination despite a significant injury before the game had even started. Thankfully Charlotte Wyatt had recovered in time for the next match where the girls fought hard to hold back a very strong Woodbridge side. Two excellent goals gave the girls confidence and despite losing the game. Without any midweek matches against local schools, the season has been very tough and it is to the girls credit that they have continued to work with determination to improve their score lines from last year. Thank you to captain Becky Jones for her calm and organised leadership.

The U14’s have had a fantastic hockey season so far. With an excellent start beating Wisbech 2-0 on the first weekend they had the motivation and enthusiasm to do very well this term. They have gone from strength to strength with wins against Norwich School and Greshams. Having made it through to the County hockey tournament the girls were in a fighting mood to get through to Regionals and they did just that. Having beaten both teams in the group stage they went on to beat Norwich High 2-0 in a fantastic semi final. The girls went through as runners up despite losing to Greshams in the final. Some excellent performances by Esme Rotella, Charlotte Hutton and Hannah Agbeyegbe.

Having made it through to regionals, the girls were ready for some tough competition at the UEA. Their first match was against Bourne. From the start and both teams had some great chances but were denied the goals. The girls next two matches were very tough, however we stayed strong in defence with some excellent defending from Rosie Pollock and Esme Rotella. Unfortunately the girls couldn't stop the Ipswich attackers and were beaten 2-0.  In their final game the girls faced Stamford. From the start we had most of the possession and were close to taking the lead on number of occasions. Having lost Charlotte Hutton in the first half the girls knew they had to keep their heads up and keep fighting. We took the lead with an excellent goal from Amy Jones just after starting the second half. Stamford equalised a few minute later and then with minutes to go before the end found the back of the net for the second time.

The U14s have had brilliant season losing only two of their fixtures and making it through to regionals. Well done to all those who have played this term.

The U13’s have had a quiet start to the season with some difficult matches. The girls played some excellent hockey at Town Close and Norwich and showed real determination. There was some excellent defending by Alex Animba and Charlotte Taylor who fought hard to keep the ball out of our goal. Well done to all those that have played so far this season.

The U12’s have had a good start to their hockey at the College. Their first game came against Beeston Hall where they had a goal fest of a game, finally going down 6-7. They turned this around against Greshams Prep, winning 4-3. There have been a large number of girls at training on a weekly basis which is wonderful to see. Keep up the hard work. Players to watch out for are Hannah Pollock, Charlotte Seaman Annabel Jones and Emma Symington
