The latest group of students to visit our partner school in the Czech Republic tell us about their trip.
We woke bright and breezy (....) at 1am, to meet at school in the Cavell car park at 2.30am. After a few minor weight alterations to the luggage we set off for Stansted Airport.
The security process was one of hilarity. We were divided into smaller groups and the entire contents of some bags were checked.
Finally through security we dived in to the duty free stores and relished the depths of Pret A Manger.
The flight went smoothly and on arriving at Open Gate we were welcome most warmly with an obscure but ice breaking introduction assembly.
After an hour of the students company we were paired up with our dormies and spent the next hour or so unpacking and meeting people. The dorms were in twos and immaculately clean (however we were told that they had been up until ungodly hours tidying up!).
Lunch gave us our first taster of Czech food. The lasagne was similar to home but had the qualities of a stew. There were two other dishes that comprised of a cauliflower cheese and a very popular Czech dish - no comment at present time!
After lunch we embarked on our first lesson in the Czech language. The 90 minute lesson was interesting but it was difficult to maintain focus as we had been up since one in the morning.
So far our impressions of the school are ones of positive results. The pupils are lovely and easy to talk to. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly and the campus is very modern with a farm, track, stables and many modern buildings.
We look forward to the week ahead and the experience we will have.
