College lifeguards help out youngsters
Due to the generosity of some of the Wymondham College Sixth Form Lifeguards the college was able to open its doors to a group of youngsters from Chernobyl affected areas of Belarus who are currently staying with host families in the Norwich area with the charity ‘Action for Belarus Children’.
Legislation requires qualified lifeguards to be present whilst swimming pools are used by members of the public and students from the College’s sixth form stepped forward to volunteer their services thus making it possible for the children to accept Wymondham College’s invitation to use its pool every Thursday morning during their four week stay.
As the sole users of the pool and under the watchful gaze of the lifeguards the children were able to splash about and enjoy the freedom of the water to their hearts content.
After their swim the children were also provided with a splendid lunch in the College’s dining room.
Feedback from the children’s first visit has shown that the trip to the College has been one of their favourite activities so far.
