International Technology Project

It can be difficult getting students to concentrate on the last lesson of the day, but at 9.00pm at night?!

On Tuesday 24th June a group of students from Wymondham College took part in a link project with Collegiate School Wanganui as part of our bid for the International Schools Award. Both school groups were given the brief to simultaneously make a cart, no bigger than 600mm x 600mm. When a Coca Cola can was dropped the cart would be moved forward. Before the evening lesson started the students had been emailing each other to find out about their school experience. During the evening session, students communicated over the internet and shared pictures of their progress. Collegiate is an Independent mixed day and boarding school, our students were interested to see how they find their experience of boarding.

The time difference was a bit of a problem, Collegiate students were in their workshop at 7.30am and our students started work at 8.30pm. There were some very tired faces when they had finished! Collegiate students furthest distance was 1 metre, after some last minute tinkering, Wymondham College made one of the carts go 1.3 metres, making them overall champions. We hope to strengthen the link in the future and of course one day go to New Zealand!
