German Club

All about German Club, by Millie Horn and Georgia Thompson, Year 7

At our most recent German Club session the topic was “Herbst” (=autumn) and Frau Pfeiffer sent us out on a nature trail, during which we had to find different colour leaves, any three items of fruit off a tree and a feather! We had to report back to Frau Pfeiffer and tell her in German what we had found. This is when the fun really started: Back in the classroom we were following a German autumn tradition and made little animals out of “Kastanien” and “Eicheln” (conkers and acorns), all held together with matchsticks and decorated with leaves. We made a giraffe and a snowman, Chloe made a horse, Eloise a mouse, whilst Lauren struggled with a huge poodle!
German Club is simply fun because you do different things than in your normal German lessons. Last week we acted out a scene in a café, where Eloise from Year 9 played the waitress serving a difficult family of four. Frau Pfeiffer played the part of a very grumpy customer complaining about old cheese and cold coffee. If you got stuck with your German (as we beginners often did), Frau Pfeiffer didn’t mind; she would help us with the pronunciation and encourage us to join in.

We enjoy German Club and invite other students to come along and try something new.
