Futures Day was held at Norwich City Football Ground.
The day involved 180 students from Wymondham College, Attleborough High School, Old Buckenham and Hethersett High .It enabled Year 10 students to take a pause in time to think about their future with a raft of experts on hand from a variety of professions to give them help and advice.
The students listened to two keynote speakers; Yvonne Mason from The Mason Trust and Scott Hewitt from Real Projects who was asking the students ‘so you thought you knew about gaming!’
Students listened to workshops run by Active Norfolk, Grange Dynamics, Bloodhound SSC, Microsoft, British Airways, The Army, Archant, BBC, Mills and Reeve, NHS, Startrite, Barclays, UEA and Farrow Design. Students commented on how the day enabled them to have one to one conversations with top professionals in their different sectors. It was also a great day for the teachers to interact with industry.
The day was also graced by a personalised recorded message from the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. Mr Balls was keen to make a contribution and give his support for the day which he said was "a really good idea". In his message he encouraged students to "aim high and be the best you can be". Mr Balls grew up in Bawbrugh in Norfolk. He said that Wymondham College had a great reputation back in the 70s and 80s when he was at school and he knew that it had gone from strength to strength since. The Secretary of State also revealed himself as a Canaries season ticket holder - so the location for the day definitely met with his approval.
Students completed a feedback form about the day which will be used to evaluate it and plan for the next one. One of the forms was drawn at random and the lucky winner of a digital camera was Eleanor Harris.
