Dads' and Lads' Tournament

The Dads' v Lads' Tournament on Summer Fayre Saturday was blessed with beautiful sunshine and some superb cricket from both dads and lads alike. There were three teams contesting the tournament. They were a Dads' XI, a Lads' XI and a mixed team.

Dads' and Lads' XI v Lad’s XI

The first match of the tournament saw a mixed Dads' and Lads' XI play the Lads' XI. The Lads' XI captained by Harry Barratt opted to bowl first. Opening with Keith Gifford-Tutt and Pascal Walker the mixed team had an early wicket loss of Pascal Walker on just 5. Josh Stuart came in briefly and was run out on 8. This brought Caspar Gifford-Tutt to the crease for a father-son batting line-up. They managed a partnership of 13 together. After Keith Gifford-Tutt was then caught from Glenn Meredith’s bowling, Robin Thatcher then came into bat and hit his son James Thatcher, for 4 runs just down towards point.

The Lads replied with some very strong batting and Toby Fletcher (10 Run Out) and Harry Barratt (17 Run Out) opened very well. Paddy Downing (13) and Nick Whales (11) managed to get the required runs with 2 overs to spare.

58 for 2 – Lads win by 3 wickets

Dads' and Lads' XI v Dads' XI

With the Lads' XI taking a break, the Dads' and Lads' XI choose to bat first against the Dads' XI captained by Paul Meredith. The mixed team posted a good score of 64 with George King top scoring with 24. On his way to 24 he ran out three of his team mates, including his dad, David King, who he ran out for 3 runs.

The Dads' XI chased a tidy total of 64 with three balls to spare. Josh Stuart was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets for 12 runs. Matt Gilbert also bowled very well and earned bowler of the day for his two wickets in an over. Pick of the batsmen for the Dads' XI were Paul Meredith anchoring the victory with 9 not out and Keith Charlish who retired hurt on 13.

65 for 6 – Dads win by 1 run

Dads' XI v Lads' XI

With both these teams winning their opening matches this game was a final in itself. The Lads' XI decided to bat first and they did so in style. Toby Fletcher (35 Not Out) and Harry Barratt (23 Run Out) gained a 50 partnership together from just 36 balls. Nick Whales then came in to add 9 not out to the total.

77 for 1

The Dads' team were set tough total to chase and didn’t make easy work of it. Trevor Whales batted very well opening the scoring with 9 before being caught in the slips by Toby Fletcher. Dads' wickets came tumbling whilst chasing a big total and they were left with a big ask towards the tail end of the bat. Toby Fletcher bowled the last over of the game at his dad and was hit for 10 runs from the last three balls, with the dads finishing on 57.

57 for 7 – Lads win by 6 wickets.
