Prestigious scholarship awarded to students at Wymondham College
At a ceremony held at the Institution of Engineering & Technology, Savoy Place London, on 30th October 2009, James and Johnathon were awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship for their outstanding work in design and technology.
In the morning the speaker was Professor Sir John O’Reilly, Vice Chancellor, Cranfield University and past President of The IET, and in the afternoon Sir Peter Williams CBE FRDng FRS, Honorary Treasurer and Vice President, The Royal Society.
Johnathon and James applied to the Arkwright Scholarship in December 2008. Over 600 students from 295 different schools in the UK applied. After passing through 3 levels of interviews consisting of application forms, practical and theory exams they were both sucessful and travelled to London at half term to recieve their awards. Both students are sponsored by National Engineering companies and as well as guidance and work experience, will recieve a bursary of five hundred pounds each.
Pictures show James and Johnathon with their sponsors. Both students will receive work experience at their sponsors establishment and a bursary to support their A-Levels.
They are currently working on a community project to design and manufacture covers for a Cricket wicket for Bradenham Cricket Club and Wymondham College. So watch this space!
