Norfolk MFL Oral Competition

(or bilingual X Factor!)

In July we were delighted to welcome over sixty competitors from 12 Norfolk schools to the annual Modern Foreign Languages Competition which we organise and host as part of our Specialist Language College Programme.

Competitors presented a range of topics to a panel of judges which included Alice Harrison, National Network Coordinator for Languages SSAT, Carlos Toranzos, Spanish Pathway Leader, Anglia Ruskin University and Adam Cooke, Secondary MFL Advisor for Norfolk. Judges and colleagues were very impressed by the standard of the presentations which really put Norfolk's talented linguists in the spot light.

During the lunch break, students worked in groups to produce multi-lingual podcasts to advertise the competition or to highlight the importance of language learning. The podcasts will soon be available for download.

Alice Harrison, National Network Coordinator SSAT (Languages) and Judge, commented.

"I genuinely really enjoyed yesterday. I realise people say things like it was a privilege but it really was. In my new role I really miss working with young people and it was refreshing to see young people so positive and keen on language learning. They were so talented and it opened my eyes to what is possible and definitely raised the bar"

Congratulations to all competitors!  A full list of prize winners can be viewed by clicking the link on the right.
