Film Making Workshop

During Wymondham College's activity week last July a group of students took part in a video-making workshop at the Goethe-Institute in London.

The challenge was to create a music video for a German pop song, which would then automatically enter a national competition run by the GOETHE INSTITUTE London. The GOETHE INSTITUTE is a German cultural institution operational worldwide, promoting the study of the German language abroad and fostering knowledge about German culture, society and politics.

Both College entries were praised highly by the judges and as a result the students have been invited to a one-day video-making workshop in the GOETHE INSTITUTE in South Kensington, London. This was delivered by graduates of the ‘Get into Digital Media Programme’ (GIDM). They gave an insight into their creative work and issued top tips for film-makers for the first hour. In the afternoon all workshop participants were working together in their groups to create the storyboard to film an exciting one-minute trailer for an event next June. There will be a big event at the Emirates Stadium (Arsenal) where a German musician will write a special song to commemorate Germany passing over the World Cup to South Africa for the 2010 finals. The GOETHE-INSTITUTE intends to invite around 2000 students to the event and the students will learn the song, then it will be performed and filmed.

At the end of the workshop all seven schools presented their storyboards for their trailers. With lots of ideas for a spooky-fun trailer we made our way home.

Over the next couple of months, it’s now our task to make and submit our video to the popKultur website! All entries trailers will be showcased to schools all over the country as fun trailers for the event in the summer!
