Under 14 Cricket Reach Final

Wymondham College under 14’s reached the final of the 20/20 county competition as they saw off a strong Dereham Northgate side. Having won the toss on the same rain affected fixture last week Wymondham College captain Toby Fletcher opted to use the new ball and bowl first. The new ball worked to the College’s advantage and Mark Elms took the early wicket of Dan Weber with a great take from the keeper Harry Barratt with Northgate on just 11 runs. This saw the entrance of Lewis Bates for Northgate, and their run rate slowed dramatically. This was partly due to very tight spells for Ben Rossi and Billy Falcon. Falcon got his first maiden over for the Under 14s. Bates scored only 13 from his 16 overs at the crease and was reliant on his strike partner Lewis Denmark who scored an impressive 52 including three sixes before top edging a shot up into the air for Harry Barratt to take a comfortable catch. Nic Cains then came then came in with three balls left of their innings and was run out on the last ball of the over.

With Wymondham chasing a total of 81, they opened very strongly. Nick Moore and Toby Fletcher knew they had a job to do and managed to start the ball rolling very impressively. Moore managed to get a solid 42 before being run out after a lack of communication from Fletcher. This then saw the introduction of the ever reliant Josh De Lyon who scored 1 not out to anchor Fletchers 21 not out and to win the game.

Man of the Match – Nick Moore

I would like to thank all the boys who were a pleasure to take away and represent the College.
