College under 15 Continue Great Last 32 Record
For the third year running the Wymondham College under 15 XV reached the last 32 of the Daily Mail Cup competition.
After a 2 ½ hour journey to St. Columba’s College in St. Albans, the boys grafted out a thoroughly well deserved win over the home side.
The first half was very closely contested and after being awarded three penalties, in front of the posts, St Columba’s failed to put any points on the board. The Wymondham Scrum was dominant up front and won ball against the head. Moments before the end of the first half, after taking a quick tap penalty and opting not to take 3 points Henry Phoenix surged toward the line and after a break down in the corner of the field Will Evans crashed over the line to put Wymondham 5-0 up at half time.
Wymondham came out with the same intent in the second half and after playing the game in the opposition 22 won a St. Columba’s lineout and after setting up a good base for play at the breakdown allowed Scott Lyle to crash over after a great step on the opposition 10 and then convert his own try. The second half was not dominated by either side but some solid defence from Wymondham ensured that they didn’t leak any points. With 10 minutes to go in the game after a scrum near the opposition line, Captain Will Dodds, picked from the base and the scrum and crashed over for a well earned try. Lyle added a conversion to the tally to make the final score 19-0.
Wymondham will now face Bedford School in Round 6.
