Each year the Music Department produce a stunning evening of musical merriment in the Sports Hall at the end of the Autumn term
It includes a performance from each of our musical ensembles and culminates in four pieces from the Wymondham College Concert Band.
In 2010, the concert also included pieces from the combined Choir, the Flute Choir, the Recorder Group, the Junior Jazz Band, the Jazz Band which featured vocal solos from our very own Ellie Isherwood and JJ Weatherstone, the String Group, Brass Group and the Saxophone Group. In addition, we also had a spectacular performance from the FAME string quartet starring Flo Wesby, Anna Hoogkamer, Mollie Narayn and Emily Hoogkamer.
We started with Brass Group playing a festive Minuet from the Royal Fireworks by Handel and Jazz Band finished the first half with a performance of My Funny Valentine with a special guest soloist – Robert Peck. Robert was a past student of the College and is now studying Music at University. He was invited to the Concert to play as he was to be the first recipient of the Paul Donley Jazz Prize. Paul Donley presented the prize to the College in recognition of his 15 years running the College Jazz Band. Following the theme of Remembrance Day, Concert Band played Where Eagles Dare, with Harry Evans, Mollie Narayn and Elliot McCurley playing the military snare drum solos. Next was Evening Hymn and Sunset and then High on a Hill with trumpet solos from George Stronge, Harry Evans, Dominic Doggett and George Bowers. The evening finished in a spirited manner with two Western film tunes – The Big Country and The Magnificent 7.
