Multicultural Day

This year the Modern Foreign Languages Department held their first Year 7 Multicultural Day.

Wymondham College held its first Multicultural Day in 2008. Students from Year 7 spent the day taking part in activities from a range of cultures.

They played Tchoukball, a game invented in Switzerland in the 1970s, which has a unique Charter which underpins the 'Spirit of the Game'. Fair play and respect for the opposition is a fundamental part of the way in which Tchoukball is played.

World dance workshops were held with practitioner Lorraine Theobald, ranging from Egyptian and African to Haka. At the end of the day the students gave a performance to show what they had learned and threw themselves into it with great enthusiasm.

Heritage Ceramics showed the students how to make African masks and pots from clay and students also designed and printed their own African textiles and designed their own Indian Rangoli patterns with the Maths department. Students also interviewed various members of the College’s community about their culture to produce a series of podcasts.

The College Language Director, Mr Jeremy Moyle commented ; “The day was a real celebration of various cultures which the students thoroughly enjoyed. College staff and workshop organisers worked really hard to produce a fantastic day of cultural discovery which will form part of our bid to The British Council to gain the International Schools Award.”
