On Monday 1st February the English Department were extremely pleased to, once again, host Shakespeare Day; a day whereby Year 9 pupils had their knowledge of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ significantly supplemented by a one hour performance of the play and an afternoon workshop led by The Black Cat Theatre Company.
During the day pupils were able to display their thespian talents with a whole year group performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Each class had pre-prepared one scene and as a year group they, very successfully, sequenced the dramatic events of the play. Notable performances were Ben Partridge’s and Rosie Baines’ romantic exchange of love as the ‘star-cross’d’ lovers, Aaron Brett Millar’s role as fiery Prince Escalus and Will Martin, defying stars, as Romeo.
During the afternoon pupils were involved in an interactive workshop where they enjoyed ‘playing the director’, sharing their ideas about the play and watching professional actors perform various scenes. A fun and educational day enjoyed by all!
