Brian Jacques Visits

World renowned author Brian Jacques visited the College on Friday 3rd July to meet with all Year 7 students.

He completed two fascinating and funny talks about his life as an author. Brian told the students about how his first book was written for a group of students at the Liverpool School for the Blind as he wanted to give them a story with magic, which he couldn't find on the current market. The students were treated to a recital of passages from Redwall which was absolutely captivating.

All the students had questions from "Why do you write about animals?" to "Do you practice your autograph?" which Brian answered honestly, fully and with his unique brand of wit. Brian also judged the competition that students had entered prior to his visit. All of Year 7 were asked to create a new character for Redwall. Brian read all 20 finalists entries' and chose Tabby Watson's as his favourite. He said that she had truly captured the spirit of Redwall and she had successfully 'painted pictures with words'.

During the day Brian also watched students Drama work where they were physicalising the animals from his stories and creating voices for them. Brian was an exceptionally interesting visitor and guest speaker. He was enthusiastic about the students work and he had time to speak to all his fans. A memorable day for all!
