The Kett formal 07 was a much anticipated event. With the competitive sense of all the houses, everything was up for grabs. This was the year when the year 11’s pulled out all the stops to make just this one night, something amazing. The prep room of Kett hall was completely transformed by the afternoon. Black and white drapes hung form the walls and the shining silver and black garlands gleamed down from above. A large white carpet stretched down the length of the prep room in which the magnificent y11 table had been laid. All of this had been done in complete secrecy, the prep room was completely blacked out for the evening so that when the first beautifully dressed year sevens trickled out nervously onto the white carpet they could experience the wonder of all the work the matrons and year 11’s had put into it. We had a chance to catch the smiles of everyone looking their best before issuing them into the banquet hall, everyone on the night looked absolutely fabulous and it was clear to see the effort that everyone had made. All the year 11’s were dressed to perfection, immaculate tuxedos, beautiful dresses, pristine tails and even some daring new entries like the magnificent top hat and cane from Felix Faire and the marvellous purple cravat of Ben Garwood, after everyone had admired each others attire it was time for the feast . Before everyone tucked in we experienced grace from our 2 leavers: Daniel Wright and Emma Smith. The meal proceeded with the lilting voice of Frank Sinatra in the background and much merriment all round. This was only faltered by Mr. Blakey’s moving speech that left some onlookers moved to tears (*cough* Bethany Shingfield). Smiles broke out again when the enormous tubs of Ben and Jerrys™ were issued onto the tables. After the meal was over the tables were swiftly whisked away to clear space for what was now the real party. Shoes were thrown aside and the music was cranked up. Thanks had to be given to the dj’s of the night, we had appearances form mc Stephy p, master of the decks Ellie C, even ‘the Kingwell’ and her awesome taste in music was much appreciated by the throbbing crowd, finally the mix of drum, bass and club served up by the deadly duo of mc Benny b and DJ fairground finished off the crowd. Midway through the evening, after much anticipation, the ‘most likely’ awards were announced. Then at last the prestigious formal royalty crowns were awarded. Beth Shingfield and Ben Garwood became the prince and princess, whilst Felix Faire and Leanne Chapman were crowned 2008 Formal King and Queen. The whole of Kett went to bed with sore feet and ringing ears after what was truly, the most memorable formal event to date. Yours truly, your king and queen.
