The annual inter house relays competition took place on Wednesday the 30th April in variable weather conditions
The Kett athletes donned their vests and lycra to compete with all houses across all age groups. Year 13's who many believed had put themselves out to pasture relived some previous highs with the year 12 and 13's combined boys team coming second by four points to a dominant New Hall team and setting a new record in the 3 x 800m, recording a time of 7.09. Our senior girls were supported by all and although they came third on their event, they set two new inter house records - 3 x 800m in 8.53 and the 4 x 200m in 2.13.9.
The fresh faces of Peel joined our established Year 8 stars in both the Junior Boys and Junior Girls. The junior boys romped home by ten points surprising many along the way. The weather was clearly against the junior girls, not wanting to risk pulling a muscle and denying themselves a chance of helping Kett regain Sports Day this year they came third without showing all of their potential, we have to remember they are after all, warm weather athletes.
Strong individual perfromances by Emily Cowan, Megan Eldridge and Amy Partidge, ably supported by Jessica Hall, Emily Drake, Hannah Bardsley and Grace Makintosh could not stop a strong Fry team, but those individual performances give hope for Sports Day and College teams this summer.
The inter boys dominated the other houses, winning by a massive twenty two points, winning every race bar one in the evening. Mr Puttock led his team well, making sure that everyone ran appropriate events with significant rest time in between. Joe Cousens, Jamie Heath and Alfie Chapmans 3 x 800m record obviously stands out, but Sam Smith, Morgan Jones, Matt Hastings and David Griffiths performed outstandingly well particularly in the sprint events.
The overall trophy was awarded to Kett this year, indicating support, cohesion and a great team spirit across all seven year groups.
