The weather is getting warmer and most of the hard jobs have been done in the garden.
The raised beds are built, filled and planted; over 200 car tyres have been collected from various garages, filled with soil then planted with potatoes; bark chips have been laid over all the paths; and a variety of exotic bird scarers are springing up around the garden, including Jeffrey the scarecrow.
Now is the time for fair-weather gardeners with un-calloused hands to get involved! All staff, students and parents are welcome to come along to any of the gardening clubs throughout the summer term where we will be weeding, watering, planting and, eventually, picking and eating the produce! The garden can be found in between the water tower and Kett field, near to the PSA Reshop (please use the first entrance and drive around past the sports block, library and refectory).
Garden clubs will be held every Wednesday 4 - 5pm, and every Friday 4 – 5pm, except on exeats and half term. There are also ‘Digging with Davis’ sessions on Saturday 9th May, and Saturday 13th June 12.30 – 3pm.
Finally, I would also like to hear from anyone (staff, parents or students) who might want to help out on the Norfolk Show days, where we hope to have a garden stall as part of the Wymondham College stand. Obviously this needs to be someone who has a little knowledge about gardening – so either someone who has been, or is intending to be involved in the College garden over the coming weeks in some way, or someone who has their own vegetable garden at home. Please email me or come to see me over the next few weeks if you are interested.
