Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions, and answers which may help to describe what the PSA does.

How do I join? Contact our Secretary, Fiona Emblem her details are on the 'Contact Us' pages of this website, who would be delighted to register your interest, either as a Committee member of helper at events.

How do I find out what the PSA committee are doing? Look for our Newsletter in the furthest reaches of your student children’s bags or receptacles when they return home or look at the PSA slot on the College website or contact your committee member in the Students term books

How else does the PSA support the College? Ever wondered how you ever got through those parent teacher interviews at the Sports Hall. It’s the PSA members who are on hand to dispense well-needed refreshments.
In addition members dispense refreshments at events such as the Spring Concert, Fireworks Display and other college functions.

Who are the PSA? We are a group of staff and parents or carers who give a little of our time to ensure that the College and the children have the money to buy those things which Education Authority and other funds don’t quite run to, and we have some fun at the same time.

Why doesn’t the Education Authority or the College provide these additional funds? The Education Authority ties it’s funding fairly closely to the curriculum and other funds are often similarly targeted. The PSA aims to fill the gaps and does not replace any statutory funding.

Is the role of the PSA purely fundraising? No, although fundraising forms part of out activities, we aim to spend the money wisely, rather than just hand it over, and hope that our events contribute to the social cohesion and cultural development of the College community.

How do you decide what to spend the money on? The Principal, Melvyn Roffe, canvasses  ideas from the pupils and staff, and we call for submissions on proposals. We then make decisions in committee meetings. See the college website for items of financial support given

If I join the committee how much time do I have to give up? In reality 4 or 5 Sunday evening meetings and a couple of events during the year would be a worthwhile contribution.

How often are committee meetings? There are normally 2 per term, but this depends on what events are running.

What will I have to do (if I join the committee)? Do as much or little as you wish to.

Do I have to join the committee or can I just help? Either is fine.
