Lincoln Fellow

Ruth Jackson is the Lincoln Fellow for 2010-11

I grew up in Greater Manchester, but my Northern grit was probably softened by the four years I spent at the University of Cambridge, where I studied for a BA, and then an MPhil, in Theology. Newly graduated, and used to the slobbery and self-motivation of studentdom, Wymondham College has so far presented me with a shock of practical, dynamic work. I've positively relished getting my teeth stuck in though, and I've loved meeting all the students. Even the fact that we're in Norfolk is growing on me.

As 'The Lincoln Fellow', the remit of my role at Wymondham is to encourage intellectual development and academic curiosity in the VI Form community. I'm currently absorbed in helping Year 13's with their UCAS preparation, and have been charged in particular with advising and supporting those who aim for the spires and the red brick respectively of the UK's highly selective Universities. This will mean lots of thinking and debating outside of the classroom, and I will be organising some appropriate extra-curricular activities over the year. I have also been mentoring pupils who want to improve their essay technique and study skills, and will enjoy continuing to plug my own researching and writing experience into helping students with their coursework assignments. My biggest project here, however, has been planning for and teaching the new AS Critical Thinking course that the College is offering to Yr12s. My class of sparky, intelligent individuals has been a pleasure to work with so far, and I'm excited to see what they will challenge me with next!
